Revisión de la colonización del Oeste estadounidense en s. XIX: de las tesis de Smith al comunitarismo utópico

Estudio crítico-hermenéutico e histórico-comparado de Economía Política e Historia Económica sobre el modelo de crecimiento y desarrollo aplicado al proceso decimonónico de colonización del Oeste estadounidense. Se revisan los marcos teóricos y metodológicos sobre el comercio y el desarrollo, partiéndose de Smith y sus reformulaciones posteriores. Se introduce además, el factor religioso e ideológico, para atender al papel de las utopías o empresas colonizadoras en forma de granjas y talleres comunitarios y cooperativos. Se ofrece una sistematización y comparación entre los proyectos de movimientos religiosos protestantes y milenaristas (v.g. shakers, rappitas, amanitas) y las iniciativas ideológicas utópicas (v.g. icaristas, owenianos, georgistas), evaluándose cuál resultó más eficiente y sostenible, resolviéndose así la paradoja Hillquit.
