Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyze the influence of education level on the quality of employment among young wage earners, according to company size, in Metropolitan Lima in the year 2022, from the perspective of Amartya Sen's theory of human capabilities. Quality of wage employment is a multidimensional phenomenon and therefore not directly observable, so a synthetic quality index was constructed from the perspective of the working class, considering job characteristics. This study used data from the National Household Survey, provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics for the year 2022, with a final sample size of 3,552 observations. To evaluate the influence of education level on the quality of wage employment, an ordinal logit regression model of partial proportional odds with robust variance was fitted. Among the main results, it was found that wage employment was predominantly low-quality in Metropolitan Lima in 2022. Furthermore, it was verified that company size and education level have a direct relationship with the quality of wage employment (p<0.05). The study concludes that the influence of education level depends on the conversion factors (gender, poverty) possessed by the young workforce and the size of the company.
